Event Description

Beth Lipman, "Laid (Time-) Table with Cycads, 2015. Glass, adhesive, wood, paint. Courtesy of Claire

Opulence and excess—characteristics of past ages such as the European Baroque of the 17th and 18th centuries—have returned in today’s material-driven time in which visual overload has become the norm. A fascinating vein of artists today reworks this sensibility of extravagance. Ritual and Desire explores this line that connects historical aesthetics and contemporary attitudes. It presents the work of three artists—Beth Lipman, Cassandra C. Jones, and Lauren Fensterstock. Though linked through the medium of glass, each artist creatively expands the traditional understanding of that medium. They advance the possibilities for glass artmaking for today’s world.
