Tonight on the Night Train, jazz-inspired albums from Van Morrison and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, solo projects from two Manhattan Transfer singers – Cheryl Bentyne and Janis Siegel, jazz giants Stan Getz and Dave Brubeck, pianists Ahmad Jamal (the July featured artist) and Brad Mehldau, and tributes to Thelonious Monk from Claire Daly and to Stevie Wonder from Yoron Israel.

Tuesday 7.21.15

Night Train celebrates birthdays of vocalist Helen Merrill and hard bop pianist Sonny Clark, highlights new music from George & Chico Freeman and Pete Malinverni, and continues with more music from July featured artists Ahmad Jamal (with music from his Chicago Revisited album) and Nina Simone (with a special in hour two of the show).

Wednesday 7.22.15

Night Train marks birthdays of guitarists Al Di Meola and Joshua Breakstone, soul jazz organist Don Patterson and Latin jazz saxophonist Mario Rivera. Plus more from July featured artists Nina Simone (including a Grammy-nominated song from her Silk & Soul album) and Ahmad Jamal (with music from a rare recording he did with an orchestra) - and impressive new sophomore albums from Latin jazz septet Aguanko and organist Charlie Dennard.

Thursday 7.23.15

Night Train showcases new music from pianist Kenny Werner, South American composer and violinist Federico Britos, neo-gypsy jazz band Pearl Django, singer Halie Loren, and  drummer Quincy Davis – plus more music from July featured artists Ahmad Jamal and Nina Simone, and birthday salutes to singer Janis Siegel (of Manhattan Transfer fame), vibes player Khan Jamal, and soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
