Allegations Arise Concerning Kansas Governor's Brother

Linn County Sheriff's Department

Gov. Sam Brownback’s brother, Jim Brownback, has been involved in some long-running disputes with neighbors in Linn County, in Eastern Kansas.

Tim Carpenter, a reporter with the Topeka Capital-Journal, says there are questions about whether Jim Brownback has benefited from his connection to the state’s most powerful politician. Carpenterwrote about the allegations in an article published over the weekend.

Carpenter told KPR's Stephen Koranda that one dispute started when a dog owned by Jim Brownback’s family was put down after mauling some hogs owned by his neighbors, the Peine family. The Peines say the dog incident has led to harassment - and worse - against them by Jim Brownback.

Stephen Koranda is the managing editor of the Kansas News Service, based at KCUR. He has nearly 20 years of experience in public media as a reporter and editor.
