Aretha & Rufus Thomas, St. Paddy’s Irish Blues & Nat Cole’s Birthday

March 17/19

Crossroads continues with more music from March featured artists Aretha Franklin and Rufus Thomas, including classic tracks Thomas did for both Sun and Stax Records, and a cover of a Nat King Cole hit done by Aretha Franklin.

March 17th is Cole’s birthday and along with music from him in the first hour, Crossroads heads to the Savannah Music Festival for a performance from his brother Freddy Cole in hour two. The 17th is also St. Patrick’s Day and Crossroads serves up some Irish blues from Van Morrison and Rory Gallagher.

And there’s music from artists with concerts in the coming week as well.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
