Assistance Available For Low-Income Kansans To Protect Homes Against Weather

http://www.kshousingcorp.org

The Kansas Corporation Commission(KCC) announced Monday that it will provide $350,000 in grant funds to help provide weatherization assistance to low-income Kansans.

The Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) operates the Weatherization Assistance Program, which has helped nearly 600 households so far this year.

The KCC grant, funded by the Department of Energy, will help whittle down the waiting list.

Services provided include weather-stripping, caulking of doors and windows, adding insulation and repair or replacement of heating and cooling systems and appliances.

?Scott Kuhn, KHRC’s weatherization program manager, says households receiving whole-house weatherization services typically see savings of 15 to 25 percent.

To apply for weatherization assistance, low-income households can contact their regional service provider.
