Baker, VanVleet To Stay In Wichita For Senior Year

Sean Sandefur

All-American guard Ron Baker announced on Monday that he will return for his senior season at Wichita State.

The 6-foot-4 guard out of Scott City spent the days following the Shockers’ Sweet 16 loss evaluating his professional basketball opportunities.

According to a release from the university, Baker says he sees potential for the Shockers next season because of both the players that are returning and new talent who will be added to the roster.

Baker currently ranks 29th on the all-time scoring list for the Shockers with 1,145 points.

If he can duplicate his success from this past season, Baker would become just the eighth Shocker to reach the 1,600-point mark, even though he missed much of his freshman season due to injury.

A representative from WSU has confirmed that Shocker guard Fred VanVleet will also be returning for his senior season.
