Big Bill Broonzy Birthday, Bo Diddley Special, Remembering Mighty Sam McClain & Upcoming Concerts

  June 26/28

This week at the Crossroads, we wrap up the June feature celebrating the electric Chicago blues and the 65th anniversary of Chess Records with Joe Bonamassa’s new album in tribute to Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, Mike Henderson’s version of an early Muddy Waters classic on Chess, and a special exploring the legendary Bo Diddley beat. Plus a tribute to blues and soul singer Mighty Sam McClain who passed away last week, remembering Big Bill Broonzy on his birthday, and music from artists with concerts in the coming week.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
