Below, Mayor Jeff Longwell talks about Wichita's plans to improve bicycling and transportation in the future, and he shares his own favorite routes to bike.
In addition to the bicycle feature (click to play the first audio link), Mayor Jeff Longwell offered this advice for new riders:
"Number one, I would recommend that you find a buddy to ride with, because it's always safer to ride in pairs.
Get a decent bike, especially to ride on the street or on the off-street surfaces. A decent bike makes all the difference, and you don't have to spend a lot of money to get a decent bike.
And then, this is me personally, and the people I ride with. We don't allow anybody to ride with us unless they have a helmet. So make sure you have the appropriate clothing, be safe, be aware, and if you can, have a buddy ride with you."
