The Senate Ways and Means Committee has introduced legislation that would pause the implementation of new Common Core Education standards. The bill the committee introduced Friday would create an 11-member legislative panel to review the State Board of Education's decisions on any new education standards.
The proposal is a response to the board adopting new Common Core Standards in 2010. The standards are part of a multi-state effort create uniform benchmarks for math and reading in K-12 education. The board adopted the standards in along with many other states, but they haven't yet been put into effect.
