Birthdays and more from March feature on Night Train

Monday 3.17.14

Night Train joins in with Global Village and Strange Currency to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with some jazzy green things. We also mark birthdays of the legendary Nat Cole, organist Ron Oswanski, and pianist Jessica Williams, and highlight more from March featured artist, Pat Metheny, this time with the great jazz drummer Roy Haynes.

Tuesday 3.18.14

Night Train has more from March featured artist Pat Metheny – this time from the Reunion album with Gary Burton - and marks birthdays of steel pan player Andy Narrell, vibesman Joe Locke and also guitarist Bill Frisell. In hour two of the show, it’s a special performance from Frisell at the Savannah Music Festival.

Wednesday 3.19.14

Night Train highlights music from bassist, composer and singer Esperanza Spaulding, flamenco jazz pianist Chano Dominguez, guitarists Randy Napoleon and Nick Moran, the debut album from Weather Report, and the release that marked the 35th anniversary of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

Thursday 3.20.14

Night Train joins in with Global Village and Strange Currency to celebrate the return of spring with seasonal songs from Blossom Dearie, Benny Golson, Mark Whitfield and more. Plus more from March featured artist Pat Metheny, and birthday salutes to Harold Mabern, Meredith D’Ambrosio, and Piano Jazz great Marian McPartland. In hour two of the show, we’ll rebroadcast the special tribute show that aired when she passed away last August.
