We’ll highlight Afro-Cuban sounds from the pioneering work of Machito to new albums from Hilario Duran and Nestor Torres, new flamenco from the Guitar Trio of Paco de Lucia, Al DiMeola and John McLaughlin, Brazilian jazz from Eliane Elias and more.

Global Village celebrates birthdays of Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos, and singers Dolores Keane, Gal Costa, and Julie London. Plus more in the September Hispanic Heritage Month feature, including music from Chicha Libre and Lila Downs.
Wednesday, September 27
Global Village marks the birthday of Robbie Shakespeare, bassist and half of the legendary reggae ‘Riddim Twins’ with Sly Dunbar. Featured are a number of Sly & Robbie releases along with classic artists and tracks with the two. Global Village also highlights some recent and new reggae releases and compilations, including music from the Black Seeds, Ozomatli, the Skatalites, Christos DC, New Kingston, and the 40th anniversary edition of Bob Marley’s Exodus album.

Global Village marks birthdays of Brazilian soul pioneer Tim Maia and C.J. Chenier, the son of zydeco great Clifton Chenier. Plus more music for the September Hispanic Heritage Month feature – this time from Miami bands Palo! and Spam All Stars, Mandrill, and the new Santana album with the Isley Brothers.
Friday, September 29
It’s Coffee Day and Global Village is brewing up an entire show devoted to great java songs from the likes of Bob Marley, Willie Bobo, the Ink Spots, Herbie Mann, Robert Plant, Bob Dorough and more.
(Strange Currency and Crossroads will also be brewing up Coffee Day programs tonight.)
