Bowie, Belew And A Bevy Of Birthdays

Thursday, December 15

Released just before his death in early 2016, Blackstar was widely received as one of David Bowie’s best albums in more than a decade. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as music from former Bowie guitarist Adrian Belew’s 1997 release Op Zop Too Wah.

Friday, December 16

We’ll celebrate guitarist Aaron Moreland’s birthday with selections from his work with Moreland & Arbuckle as well as music from Tom Page and more.

Saturday, December 17

Released in 1982 Prince’s 1999 was the record that saw him breakthrough to a wide audience. We’ll hear from that recording on this episode of the show plus music from David Bowie’s 1979 album Lodger.

Monday, December 19

Listen for selections from the soundtrack to the 2007 Bob Dylan-based film I’m Not There featuring artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Yo La Tengo and others. We’ll also hear from Bob Dylan's classic Blood on the Tracks release.

Tuesday, December 20

We celebrate the birthdays of musician Mike Watt (Firehose, Minutemen) and Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Joe Satriani) with music from throughout their careers.

Wednesday, December 21

Released in 1969, Uncle Meat was intended as the soundtrack to a film that Frank Zappa would finally release in 1987. A new version of the album Uncle Meat has just been issued with a wealth of bonus material under the name Meat Light we’ll hear selections from that recording on what would have been Zappa’s 76th birthday.
