Brownie McGhee Centennial, Concert Previews & New Music

November 20/22

This week at the Crossroads there’s more from November featured artist Brownie McGhee for his centennial birthday – including some rare jump blues he recorded for the Savoy label, along with classic blues, folk blues, and soul folk releases he did with long time partner Sonny Terry.

Plus music from artists with concerts in the coming week; classics from Eddie ‘Cleanhead’ Vinson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Otis Redding, and Carey Bell; and new music from Buddy Guy, Tommy Castro & the Painkillers, Canned Heat, the New Mastersounds, Danielle Nicole, Zac Harmon, and more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
