Buddy Guy On Chess, Blues Blast Nominees & New Award Winners

July 15/17

Crossroads continues the July feature celebrating the upcoming 80th birthday of blues legend Buddy Guy, this time with music he did as a leader, and as a sideman with Muddy Waters and Koko Taylor on the Chess label.
Plus music from some of the newly named Blues Blast Music Awards nominees – including Curtis Salgado, Guy Davis, Fiona Boyes and more - and from two recently announced award winners: Big Chief Monk Boudreaux (a newly named NEA Heritage Fellow) and Smokey Robinson (this year’s honoree for the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song).

And there’s new music from Cha Wa, the Corey Dennison Band, the Golden State Lone Star Blues Revue, William Bell and the Soul of John Black.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
