Global Village features acclaimed Malian kora player, Ballake Sissoko, with music from his critically acclaimed Chamber Music album with cellist Vincent Segal, an early import album as leader, and guest appearances with Italian minimalist Ludovico Einaudi, bluesman Taj Mahal, and Cuban guitarist Manuel Galban. Plus new music from the Afro-Caribbean Party and Next Stop Soweto compilations, cellist Ophelie Gaillard, and ngoni star Bassekou Kouyate.

Global Village travels to Brazil for a variety of styles and artists. Among the highlights, tropicalia great Caetano Veloso’s Latin-Grammy-winning album, Abracaco, neo-tropicalia from Garotas Suecas, a compilation of music from Brazilian bass culture, the Afro-Brazilian inspired duo of Da Lata, Nilson Matta’s re-working of music from the classic Black Orpheus, and Brazilian jazz percussion great, Airto.
Thursday, June 25
Global Village celebrates the birthday of the King of Zydeco, Clifton Chenier, with music from the zydeco legend, his son C.J. Chenier, and also some styles of music often compared to zydeco, including Colombia Vallenata and Brazilian Forro. Plus new music from Songhoy Blues, Buena Vista Social Club and Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys.
Friday, June 26
It’s Take Your Dog to Work Day and Global Village lets loose the hounds by way of songs from Jesse Winchester, the Roches, Rufus Thomas, Nick Drake, Big Mama Thornton and more. Plus more world guitars – this time from Africa with Orchestra Baobab and King Sunny Ade - and new music from the Balkan-inspired Tipsy Oxcart, kora player Seckou Keita, and the Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten Cambodian rock soundtrack.
