Chicken Heads is a massive boxed set that examines 50 years of blues/R&B musician Bobby Rush. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of Strange Currency as well as music from a new set from Otis Redding, Soul Manifesto, which spans the years 1964-70.

Angels and Ghosts is the latest release from the British electronica and remix duo Soulsavers and the duo’s second collaboration with Depeche Mode frontman David Gahan. Listen for music from this recording as well as selections from Depeche Mode’s Music For The Masses release.

Goin’ Your Way is a collaboration between Neil Finn (Crowded House) and Australian singer-songwriter Paul Kelly. Recorded in Sydney, Australia in 2013, the live album finds the two accomplished writers re-creating material from their rich back catalogs. Listen for selections from that release on this episode of the show as well as music from Blitzen Trapper’s 2010 outing Destroyer of the Void.

Abigail and Lily Chapin are the daughters of legendary folk singer Tom Chapin (and the nieces of the late Harry Chapin, who wrote “Cats In The Cradle”). Originally joined by their half-sister Jessica Craven, they have released a series of outstanding recordings over the last decade, the latest of those is Today’s Not Yesterday. Featuring only Abigail and Lily, the record captures their sometimes melancholy but always remarkable harmonies and haunting songwriting. We’ll hear selections from that recording as well as music from All Across This Land, the latest from Blitzen Trapper.
Saturday, November 7
Grey Tickles, Black Pressure is the third studio album from singer-songwriter John Grant. The album examines Grant’s coming to grips with middle age, living with HIV, and matters of the heart. The record features Grant’s trademark humor and introspection. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as music from the latest release by Maserati, Rehumanizer.

American Goldwing is the 2011 album from Portland, Oregon’s Blitzen Trapper, a record that recalls elements of 1970’s rock with dashes of contemporary sounds. Listen for selections from that release as well as music from One More For The Fans, a 2015 collaboration between Lynyrd Skynrd and artists such as John Hiatt, Jason Isbell, Gov’t Mule and Jamey Johnson.
