Chicken Heads: A 50-Year History of Bobby Rush is an impressive boxed set that examines the multi-decade career of R&B/blues great Bobby Rush. We’ll hear selections from that as well as music from Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings.

Monday, January 4

 We spotlight two acts from the state of Oklahoma who wound up on our Best of 2015 list, Turnpike Troubadours, from the band’s self-titled release, and John Moreland from his High on Tulsa Heat album.

Tuesday, January 5

Listen for selections from Stop Time by Jon Regen and Faithful and Tall by Angela Parrish.

Wednesday, January 6

Half Past Present Pending is the 2015 release from Kansas-born and Oregon-based musician Mike Coykendall we’ll hear selections from that as  well as music from Blitzen Trapper’s All Across This Land.

Thursday, January 7

Trey Anastasio is a founding member of the Vermont band Phish but in recent years his solo albums have seen him delve into a variety of styles with superior results we’ll hear from his most recent album Paper Wheels as well Widespread Panic’s 2015 effort Street Dogs.

Friday, January 8

We’ll celebrate David Bowie’s 69th birthday with selections from throughout his career, including selections from his new release "Lazarus".

Saturday, January 9
Listen for selections from The Deepest Lake, the 2015 release by Dengue Fever and selections from The Pents, Jenny Wood and The Femeline and others.

Monday, January 11

We'll remember David Bowie who passed away Sunday at the age of 69, just days after his birthday and the release of a new album, Blackstar. We'll hear music from various points in Bowie's career, as well as collaborations with Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, Queen and others as well jazz versions of Bowie classics from Dylan Howe and Mike Garson, keeping with the jazz inflections of Blackstar

Tuesday, January 12

Something More Than Free is the universally acclaimed 2015 release from singer-songwriter Jason Isbell. Listen for selections from this recording as well as music from Son Volt’s Trace.

Wednesday, January 13  

We’ll remember some of the musicians we lost in 2015 with selections from B.B. King, Yes’s Chris Squire and others. 

Thursday, January 14

We’ll hear selections from The Magic World by The Wonder Revolution as well as music from 2015 releases by The World Palestine. 

Friday, January 15

In 1974, Alan Price, a founding member of the band The Animals was an acclaimed film composer and pop royalty. He set about recording a solo album titled Savaloy Dip that was hyped by Price’s record label, issued for one brief moment on 8-track and then disappeared until now. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as music from Black Beauty, spearheaded by the Arthur Lee, founder of the Los Angeles band Love and featuring an all-African American band, making it a curiosity upon its 1973 release.

Listen for selections associated with Our Best Music-Related DVDs of 2015 with selections from Jaco Pastorius, The Jam, The Beach Boys and artists who recorded with The Wrecking Crew.
