The City of Wichita is asking residents to provide further input on the hiring of the next Wichita Police Department Chief.

Questions for the two finalists in the search for the next chief of police can be submitted through the city’s website. The public will also have a chance to ask the candidates questions tonight at the Wichita Police Chief candidates’ forum at Century II’s Convention Hall.

The two candidates are Joel Fitzgerald, Sr., Allentown, Pennsylvania, chief of police; and Terri Moses, executive director of safety services at Wichita Public Schools. A third finalist, an assistant police chief in Lubbock, Texas, is no longer in the running for the position.

The police chief manages a nearly $82 million budget and supervises 836 employees. The WPD is the largest police department in Kansas and serves a population base of more than 382,368 residents. Former WPD Chief Norman Williams retired in September 2014. The current interim Police Chief Nelson Mosley was not chosen as a finalist.

The deadline to submit a question for the forum is Monday at 9 a.m.
