Ron Estes walks toward the stage to give his victory speech Tuesday.

Following his close win in Kansas’ 4th Congressional District, Ron Estes on Wednesday named two members of his leadership team.

Former finance director Josh Bell will serve as chief of staff and former Estes deputy campaign manager Debbie Luper will be district director. The district has a local office in Wichita.

Estes said after his win Tuesday that his staff will be a mix of new hires and some former Mike Pompeo employees.

“A lot of his staff had already taken other positions, some of them in the trump administration, some of them with other members," Estes said, "and so there’s a lot of vacancies that need to be filled as well.”

Under federal law, employees have continued to staff the vacant 4th District offices in a limited capacity since Pompeo resigned in January to head the CIA.

With Estes vacating his position as state treasurer, it's up to Gov. Sam Brownback to appoint a replacement to serve the rest of Estes' term.
