Crowson: I'm A Non-Believer

Mar 21, 2018

(With apologies to the Monkees…)

I thought privacy online was a given thing
Meant to be a right for you and me
But it was just a daydream
That’s the way it seems
Disappointment haunts my computer screen

Then I saw Facebook, now I’m a non-believer
There’s not a trace, of privacy left
All my data’s been sold, to Cambridge Analytica
I’m just a political loser now

I thought trolls were only found in fairy tales
Living under bridges grumpily
But the trolls from Russia
Gave Trump the data he’d need
And Zuckerberg sucker-punched my privacy

Since I saw Facebook, now I’m a non-believer
There’s not a trace of integrity left
Our data’s been mined, liked silver and gold
We’ve all been sold to Putin’s trolls
