Crowson: When A KS Legislator Turns Sixty-Four...

Roco Julie, flickr Creative Commons

What??! Kansas legislators get lifetime pensions as if they made over $90,000 when their annual pay is really $15,000? Sweet! I bet they sing this song in some of those closed-door meetings they love to have:

When I get older, losing my seat, many years from now

You will still be paying me, on that you can bet

A sweeter deal than a teacher would get

Nobody else gets quiet as much dough

For screwing things up so

Though I performed badly, I’ll take your funds gladly

When I’m 64

--

Other state employees are denied the chance to annualize their pay

But we took care of our self

We just work four months every year

While our pension’s based on 12!

--

So while I’m in Topeka, slashing the funds to every worthy cause

Like education, highways, Medicaid for the poor

There’s one cut that I truly abhor

I’ll keep my pension healthy and fat

I’ll never cut that!

Though I performed badly, I’ll take your funds gladly

When I’m 64!
