The filing deadline to run for a seat on the Board of Education for Wichita Public Schools is drawing near. KMUW’s Carla Eckels reports…
Priorities for school board members include student achievement, school funding issues, and completing bond projects like the new Wichita Southeast High School. Terms of three school board members expire at the end of June. At-Large board member Sheril Logan and District 3’s Barbara Fuller have filed for re-election, District 4’s Jeff Davis has yet to file. Sedgwick County Chief Deputy Election Commissioner Sandy Gritz says candidates are required to fill out a filing declaration in person and pay $40 in fees at the election office in downtown Wichita.
"We’ll also give them an appointment-of-treasurer form and a statement-of-substantial-interest, which will need to be filed," says Gritz. "If they plan to spend less than $500 on their campaign, they can submit an affidavit-of-exemption, which would exempt them from the requirement to file the normal campaign expense reports."
The filing deadline for elected office is January 27 at noon. The school and city primary election is March 3rd followed by the general election on April 7th.
The District 3, District 4, and At-Large members will be elected for a four-year term commencing July 1, 2015 and expiring June 30, 2019.
