Tim Kasher has issued 17 recordings in the last 20 years, as a solo artist as well as with the bands Cursive and The Good Life. The latest is No Resolution, his third overall solo album. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of the show as well as music from August By Cake, the new double LP from Dayton, Ohio’s Guided By Voices.

After the commercial disappointment of his 1986 release, Press To Play, Paul McCartney was determined to return to the charts in a big way. Convinced that he often did his best work with close collaborators, McCartney called upon Elvis Costello to help him write material for a new record. The best results were issued on McCartney’s 1989 effort Flowers In The Dirt and on Costello’s contemporaneous Spike. McCartney has just reissued Flowers In The Dirt in expanded form with demos from his writing sessions with Costello. We’ll hear early versions of tracks such as “So Like Candy” and “My Brave Face” as well as music from Costello’s Spike.

Jean-Jacques Perrey was an innovative musician and composer who worked on the cutting edge of technology throughout his career, which reached its first peak in the 1960s and 1970s. Perrey released Moog Indigo at the height of his career. Music from this release was later sampled by artists such as Kool Keith, Fatboy Slim and Pusha T. We’ll hear selections from this recording as well as from the Perrey-inspired release by the Beastie Boys, The In Sound From The Way Out!.

A new release takes on string quartet arrangements of classic songs by legendary British rock group Jethro Tull. Titled The String Quartets the release features new arrangements of pieces such as “Bungle in the Jungle,” “Locomotive Breath” and “Aqualung.” Listen for selections from that release as well as music from Fairport Convention’s 1969 effort Liege and Lief.

Listen for selections from instrumental-based rock band Cosmosquad’s latest effort, The Morbid Tango as well as music from The Neal Morse Band’s live Morsefest 2015 release, featuring material from Morse’s career as a solo artist and with the band Spock’s Beard.
