Thursday, June 1

We celebrate the birthday of Simon Gallup, bassist with The Cure. We’ll hear selections from throughout his tenure with that band plus his work with the short lived band Fools Dance. You can also hear selections from A Kiss in the Dream House from Siouxsie and The Banshees.

It’s our New Month, New Music show with selections from Low Cut Connie, Los Straitjackets and music from the latest by Justin Townes Earle, Kids in the Street.

Saturday, June 3

Recorded over two nights in March 1971,  At Fillmore East is not only one of the strongest recordings in the Allman Brothers Band’s discography but an effort that consistently ranks high in lists of the best rock albums of all time. We’ll hear selections from this recording plus music from Sea Level, the band featuring longtime Allman Brothers Band drummer Jai Johanny Johanson, also known as Jaimoe.

Monday, June 5

Baby I’m Bored is the 2003 release from singer-songwriter Evan Dando. The album has just been reissued in expanded form featuring B-sides, rarities and outtakes from the album’s initial sessions. Listen for selections from that as well as Anything Could Happen the latest by Bash & Pop.

Tuesday, June 6

We celebrate the birthday of guitarist Steve Vai with selections from his work with Frank Zappa, Public Image Limited and many others.

Wednesday, June 7

Heroes is a new EP from King Crimson, featuring the veteran progressive rock act’s take on David Bowie’s classic song of the same name. Crimson founder Robert Fripp reprises his role from the original Bowie track on a collection that also features classic material such as “Starless” and “Easy Money.” Listen for selections from this recording as well as music from the Spirit of the Stairs album Domesticated.

Thursday, June 8

Manic Revelations is the latest release from singer-songwriter Pokey LaFarge. We’ll hear selections from the Illinois-born musician’s latest plus music from Justin Townes Earle.

Jedd Beaudoin is host/producer of the nationally syndicated program Strange Currency. He has also served as an arts reporter, a producer of A Musical Life and a founding member of the KMUW Movie Club. As a music journalist, his work has appeared in Pop Matters, Vox, No Depression and Keyboard Magazine.
