The YMCA branch in El Dorado officially opened its newly expanded space for sports and other programs today. The construction project began last summer.
The Greater Wichita YMCA spent about $3 million to renovate and expand its El Dorado branch.
"The community is just overjoyed and so excited about what we are able to provide them now," says El Dorado branch director Jessica Rall.
The facility opened in 2002, and Rall says this project was the first expansion.
She says they added 16,000 square feet to the existing facility, which provides a lot of new opportunities for kids and adults.
"We added two new gymnasiums, a new program studio, we were able to renovate to our current free weight area and we also did an expansion of our Kids Zone," Rall says.
Rall says they added new staff to help develop and expand the Y activities. For starters, the branch will be adding a new youth volleyball program.
The Greater Wichita YMCA is a non-profit organization that serves more than 270,000 local kids and adults through child care, camping, urban outreach programs and healthy lifestyles activities.
