The Sedgwick County Election Office will begin mailing out advance voting ballots today for the 4th Congressional District special election.

The winner will replace Mike Pompeo, who stepped down from the U.S. House of Representatives to fill his new position as CIA director. The election will be the first congressional election to take place since Donald Trump became president. Many are considering the race to be an early test of the new president’s agenda.

Candidates for the seat include Republican Ron Estes, Democrat James Thompson and Libertarian Chris Rockhold. All three candidates were chosen at respective party nominating conventions last month.

Advance voting in person at the Sedgwick County Election Office begins Monday, March 27. The building will be open for voters from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Fifteen early voting centers will be open across Sedgwick County from April 6-8. Election Commissioner Tabitha Lehman says seven of the polling places have changed.

The election is scheduled for April 11.
