Global Village highlights world saxophones, including music from Tommy McCook, one of the founding members of Jamaica’s acclaimed ska band, the Skatalites; Canadian saxophonist Jane Bunnett with the Cuban group, Maqueque; Norwegian world-jazz saxophonist Karl Seglem; flamenco sax from Jorge Pardo; and Senegalese saxophonist Dexter Johnson.

Global Village celebrates birthdays of three artists who bring together jazz and world influences – trombonist Roswell Rudd, multi-instrumentalist and composer David Amram, and bassist Ben Allison. Plus music from flamenco-jazz saxophone and flute player Jorge Pardo, who was recently awarded Spain’s National Prize for Contemporary Music; from the Ethio-jazz group Addis Acoustic Project for the November feature; and a new album from Canada’s Ozere.

Global Village celebrates the birthday of Compay Segundo of the Buena Vista Social Club and trumpeter Don Cherry. Plus more music from Ethiopia for the November feature – this time from the third volume in the Ethiopiques series - and new music from bachata star Joan Soriano, and Balkan sounds by way of New York from the Raya Brass Band.

Barretto, Bellowhead, Bhangra, Bassekou and the Beat– Global Village will 'B' busy with those artists and more. Featured are a late ‘60s Latin soul classic on the first Fania album from Ray Barretto, acclaimed contemporary English folk-rock band Bellowhead, music from the Rough Guide to Bhangra, a soul classic from the English Beat, and the acclaimed Malian band Bassekou Kouyate & Ngnoi Ba with special guest Taj Mahal.

Music from Africa takes center stage this time in the Global Village – including music from Ethio-jazz creator Mulatu Astatke for the November feature; Algerian rai star Khaled; Congolese rumba great Papa Wemba; the Afrobeat inspired Outer Bridge Ensemble; and a selection from the classic Divas of Mali compilation. Plus some blasts from the past from War and Al DiMeola.
