http://www.friends.edu/

Friends University in Wichita achieved a milestone this year when it hired its new president.

Friends University began 117 years ago, and for the first time, a woman is in the top spot.

Amy Carey is the 14th president to serve the small private Christian university located near downtown Wichita.

She began the job in July and recently took the oath of office during an inauguration ceremony.

Carey is already working to grow Friends on several fronts.

"So building connections with the community, adding resources to the university is all a part of the plan and the vision for the future," she says. "We are just launching a two-year revitalization and growth plan."

Carey says they’re hoping to add new business and entrepreneurship programs to the university.

She spent the past 13 years in leadership roles at the University of Northwestern in St. Paul, Minnesota.

About 2000 students attend Friends University.
