Gaming Resolutions For The New Year

2014 was a great year for gaming. We saw some fantastic games like Transistor, Mario Kart 8, and Super Smash Bros. I had a lot of fun playing Cards Against Humanity and Dice Masters with friends, and spent way too much time playing Destiny. I know this year can be even better, though, so I’ve made a few resolutions to be a better gamer in 2015.

A few years ago, I played tabletop games with a group of friends every Monday evening-- either a long-running Dungeons and Dragons campaign, or else a new board game. It was a great way to get my gaming fix, and for a long time, it happened every week. For the last year or so, though, we’ve only managed to all get together a few times. I want to fix this this year. I miss getting together on a weekly basis around a table with a few beers and a bunch of friends to beat up some trolls.

Also, I just want to play a lot of new tabletop games. I’ve estimated that for every five video games that I’ve played, I’ve only played one new board game. There are so many great board games out there that I haven’t played. Board games can be expensive, but I can play new games for free at local games sessions at shops in town like Hero Complex, and maybe even make some new friends.

This year, I also want to play more online, too. Getting friends together in the same room can be difficult, but getting a few people online to play Destiny should be far easier. Halo 5 is coming out this year, and with Halo being the first game that I seriously played online with friends, I’m hoping we can all team up again in 2015.
