Global Village marks birthdays of two Latin music greats – percussionist Ray Barretto and flutist Dave Valentin. Plus more from April featured artist Paco de Lucia, this time from his Latin Grammy winning album, Cositas Buenas; and new music from The Rough Guide to Rare Latin Groove, Joe King Carrasco y El Molino, Jerez Texas, and the Jambalaya Brass Band.
Wednesday April 30
SPECIAL: International Jazz Day. Global Village celebrates the UNESCO sponsored International Jazz Day and the culmination of Jazz Appreciation Month with music from artists from around the globe who combine jazz with a wide array of different world styles. Among the artists showcased – April featured artist Paco de Lucia with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Guinean saxophonist Mamadou Barry, Vietnamese guitarist Nguyen Le, Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodriguez, and South African legend Hugh Masekela.
(Night Train will also celebrate International Jazz Day with jazz artists from around the globe tonight.)

Global Village pays visits to several continents for some different guitar sounds – from Indian slide guitarist Debashish Bhattacharya with special guest, dobro master Jerry Douglas; Paraguayan classical guitarist Berta Rojas with Paquito D’Rivera; African acoustic guitar masters Baaba Maal and Mansour Seck; and German-born African/jazz guitarist Leni Stern. Plus Pucho & the Latin Soul Brothers, modern drum and brass band Red Baraat, and Independent Music Award nominee Jussi Reijonen.
