Good Vibes And Birthdays Of Vijay Iyer, Glen Moore, Andy Bey & More

NEW RELEASES FEATURED THIS WEEK:  Kansas City’s OJT, Mike LeDonne & his Groover Quartet, Terell Stafford’s tribute to Lee Morgan, and the Complete Concert by the Sea from Erroll Garner.

Monday 10.26.15

Night Train continues with more music from October featured artist Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison (this time with Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis), highlights music from artists with concerts in the coming week, and marks birthdays of keyboardist Mike LeDonne (from his new album with the Groover Quartet), gospel great Mahalia Jackson (with Duke Ellington), French third stream pianist Jacques Loussier, and critically acclaimed pianist and composer Vijay Iyer, including a special in hour two of the show with more of his music and an intriguing conversation about jazz, musical creation, and some of his (rather surprising) influences.

Tuesday 10.27.15

Night Train continues the October Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison feature with a focus tonight on work he did with singers – including Billie Holiday, Billy Eckstine, Mary Stallings, Nat Cole, and Big Joe Turner. Plus birthday salutes to two talented European jazz artists – guitarist Philip Catherine and bassist Arild Andersen – and new music from Kansas City’s OJT, and from two new tribute albums -  Scott Hamilton playing the music of Jule Styne, and  Terell Stafford celebrating hard bop trumpet great Lee Morgan.

Wednesday 10.28.15

Night Train marks birthdays of bassist Glen Moore of the group Oregon, and vocalist and pianist Andy Bey. Plus more from October featured artist, Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison – this time both as a leader and with bands led by Gene Harris, Bob Brookmeyer, and his long-time employer Count Basie – and new music from Yoron Israel, Lee Smith, and the newly reissued Complete Concert by the Sea from Erroll Garner.

Thursday 10.29.15

Night Train has a little vibes extravaganza for this evening, with music from vibes masters Lionel Hampton, Gary Burton, Bobby Hutcherson, and Milt Jackson (with the Modern Jazz Quartet), along with contemporary bands and artists showcasing the vibes, including the Organik Vibe Trio, the Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet, the group called Vibes, and Erik Charlston JazzBrasil.
