Kansas Governor Sam Brownback has signed into law a so-called campus religious freedom bill. Critics say the law allows tax dollars to support campus organizations that discriminate in their membership. But Brownback says this legislation protects the rights of religious groups.
“You should be able to associate. You should be able to have public organizations that have sets of values and beliefs. This is very narrowly targeted, I think it’s responsibly targeted,” Brownback says.
Supporters of the law say it prevents universities from forcing campus religious groups to accept everyone into their groups.
