The Great Crescent City Piano Tradition

September 22/25

Throughout September Crossroads has been featuring blues piano for Piano Month, and few cities have a greater tradition of it than New Orleans. In this visit to the Crossroads, we’ll hear music from Dr. John, Huey “Piano” Smith, Professor Longhair, Art Neville, Fats Domino and more, including a special featuring Allen Toussaint and Stanton Moore’s new album in tribute to him.

Plus lots of blues concerts in the coming week and Crossroads highlights music from the artists appearing both locally and regionally – and new music including a preview of Tommy Castro’s latest due out at the end of next week.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
