Wichita Public Schools is not the only district preparing for a possible shutdown due to the pending state Supreme Court decision on school funding: Hutchinson Public Schools also has a plan in place.
The district’s superintendent says a small skeleton crew would be allowed to work to monitor district facilities.
Hourly and salaried employees would be furloughed, and any activity that used district facilities would not be held, including summer camps, nutrition programs and extended school year/summer school programs.
The district says if the shutdown lasts long enough, it could impact the start of the 2016 school year.
The Hutchinson district is one of four plaintiffs in the lawsuit over the state's new school funding formula.
