Jazz Birthdays, New Year’s Eve w/ Airmen of Note & Best of 2014 Special

Monday 12.29.14

Night Train marks birthdays of two major figures in contemporary jazz, pianist Danilo Perez and saxophonist Joe Lovano. There’s music from them as both guests and leaders, including Lovano’s Grammy-nominated performance on the new Latin Side of Joe Henderson album, and Perez appearing on the first Latin Side recording, featuring the music of John Coltrane.

Tuesday 12.30.14

Night Train celebrates birthdays of drummer Lewis Nash, a much in-demand session player; drummer Jerry Granelli, who first attracted attention as a member of Vince Guaraldi’s group; guitarist Ron Affif, whose style has been compared to Wes Montgomery’s; and gypsy jazz guitarist Frank Vignola. In hour two of the Night Train, it’s a special and sweetly swinging live performance from Vignola at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch.

Wednesday 12.31.14

Special: It’s a New Year’s Eve special tonight with the United States Air Force Airmen of Note performing with singer Roberta Gambarini and vibes player Joe Locke.

Thursday 1.1.15
