Wednesday 3.16.16

One of the greats of jazz piano, Tommy Flanagan, was known for his elegant and sophisticated playing, both as a leader and providing musical support for such legendary artists as Ella Fitzgerald. Night Train highlights music from Flanagan for his birthday, along with a Jazz Profiles special in hour two of the show. Plus new releases and more from March featured artist Joe Lovano.

Thursday 3.17.16

It’s the birthday today of two great pianists: Jessica Williams and Nat King Cole. Cole later became more famous as a singer and pop artist, but his early work with his trio was stylistically groundbreaking, vastly influential, and a showcase for Cole’s impressive piano work.  Night Train highlights music from both Williams and Cole in hour one of the show, and a Cole special devoted to his work as a pianist in hour two of the show.
