July Feature- Buddy Guy + Honorees, Nominees, Birthday Salutes & Concert Previews

July 8/10

Crossroads begins the July feature, celebrating Buddy Guy’s 80th birthday, with music from his latest album, Born to Play Guitar, which just picked up five nominations in the Living Blues Awards.

There’s also music from newly named Blues Blast Music Award nominees; concert previews; a guest appearance from Big Chief Monk Boudreaux – who was just named and NEA Heritage Fellow; tributes to songwriter Mack Rice (“Mustang Sally,” “Respect Yourself”) and Wayne Jackson (The Memphis Horns and the Mar-Keys) who recently passed away; and a special birthday salute to Mavis Staples, who was just named one of this year’s Kennedy Center honorees.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
