July Features, Concert Previews, New Music & Mavis Staples’ Birthday

This week at the Crossroads - more music for the July feature from Willie Dixon (with Muddy Waters), James Cotton (from the album that featured his first recordings – Chicago/The Blues/Today), Living Blues and Blues Blast Award nominees, and the Holmes Brothers (in tribute to Wendell Holmes who passed away in June).

Plus new music from Robin Trower, Deb Ryder, and Sherwood Fleming , artists with regional concerts in the coming week, and a birthday salute to Mavis Staples, including a special performance she did at Newport.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
