Kansans can learn about the state’s open government laws at a series of trainings starting next week.
The Attorney General's office will offer five free classes this month in cities across Kansas. The trainings will be led by attorneys who specialize in open government laws; panels will also be held by local government officials, media representatives and members of the Kansas Sunshine Coalition, an independent group that advocates for freedom of information.
Participants will learn about the Kansas Open Records Act and the Kansas Open Meetings Act. One of the duties of the Attorney General’s office is to investigate complaints when the state’s open records laws are being violated.
A training meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the Mulvane Public Library. Other locations include Larned, Concordia, Topeka and Olathe.
