Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt on Monday expressed support for the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling upholding most of President Donald Trump’s travel ban.
Schmidt released a statement calling the Supreme Court’s 9-0 ruling “encouraging.”
The court is allowing parts of the travel ban, which targets six predominantly Muslim countries, to take effect before oral arguments begin in October. The executive order has been on hold since March.
Schmidt says the injunctions by the lower courts were unjustified, and hurt the federal government’s ability to protect the country’s borders.
He says the Supreme Court ruling will keep out “certain categories of aliens who have no ties to the United States.”
Earlier this year, Kansas was one of 13 states to urge an appeals court to support the travel ban.
