The Kansas Attorney General has asked for a delay in implementing Environmental Protection Agency regulations affecting the energy industry.
Attorney General Derek Schmidt has joined attorneys-general from 14 other states to ask for the delay.
The regulations were part of the Clean Air Act and are designed to get a handle on greenhouse gas emitters. The Clean Power Plan gives states 13 months to demonstrate how they will replace coal-fired generation plants with cleaner alternatives.
Schmidt sees the regulation as having more to do with rushing to restructure the energy sector of the American economy than with protecting the environment. The lawsuit filed in federal court in Washington asks for the delay, but does not challenge the merits of the regulation.
