Kansas Food Bank Receives Walmart Grant

Through Walmart's Fighting Hunger Together initiative, a Walmart store in Wichita gave a $50,000 grant to help expand the Kansas Food Bank of Wichita's backpack program.

Debi Kreutzman, community relations manager at Kansas Food Bank, said they were proud of the local community for participating in the effort.

The backpack program is designed to meet the needs of Sedgwick County children by providing them with easy to prepare foods to take home during the weekends or holiday vacation when other resources they rely on, such as free or reduced-price school meals, are not available.

With the grant, Kansas Food Bank will be able to provide 1,200 children in Sedgwick County with more than 55,000 meals for the next three years.

The Fighting Hunger Together fall initiative is part of the Walmart Foundation's $2 billion commitment through 2015 to help fight hunger.
