The Kansas Volunteer Commission is offering mini-grants to support the September 11th National Day of Service & Remembrance.
The goal of the mini-grants is to provide a way for people to remember and pay tribute to the 9/11 victims, and honor those who rose in service in response to the attacks.
Cheri Faunce with the Kansas Volunteer Commission says organizations can receive grants of up to $500. She says requests must focus on military personnel who have served or are currently serving.
"We have some folks who will make thank-you kits for those who are currently overseas, we have others who will host barbeques for veterans, who will collect hygiene items for folks at the VA," Faunce says. "There's a lot of different activities that would qualify for this funding opportunity."
Public or private non-profit organizations in Kansas can apply including faith based entities, community groups and schools. The deadline to apply is August 14.
