Night Train celebrates the birthdays of singer Nnenna Freelon and trombonist and producer Delfeayo Marsalis (including a special conversation with him that took place when the entire Marsalis Family was honored with an NEA Jazz Masters Award). Plus more music from July featured artists Ahmad Jamal and Nina Simone, and new music from pianist Lisa Hilton, trombonist Ray Anderson and his Organic Quartet (with organist Gary Versace), and guitarist Jacques Lesure.

Night Train highlights music from guitarists Carlos Barbosa-Lima and Ed Cherry, two albums in tribute to Miles Davis – the Miles Español project and a set from Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette-  two of the great voices of jazz – Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan, and a trio of dynamic duos – Jimmy McGriff & Hank Crawford, Ron Carter & Richard Galliano, and Aaron Goldbeg with Guillermo Klein.

Thursday 7.30.15

Night Train marks birthdays of Kansas City singer Kevin Mahogany and alto sax star David Sanborn; wraps up the month-long feature of music from both Ahmad Jamal (including his only studio guest appearance) and Nina Simone (with her first big hit and more); and showcases new music from the Bob Mintzer Big Band, the Wayne Wallace Latin Jazz Quintet, Scott Hamilton, and the Jazz Professors.
