The Legendary Mavis Staples Featured In Tallgrass Film Festival

Hear soulful music from gospel singer and civil rights icon, Mavis Staples.  Her family group the Staple Singers inspired millions and helped fuel the civil rights movement with their tunes.  Performing for more than 60 years, Staples is currently on the Solid Soul Tour with Joan Osborne. 

The film Mavis! is a soulful portrait of the legendary singer that reveals her struggles and success.  Join KMUW’s Soulsations host Carla Eckels for the screening of Mavis! as part of Wichita’s Tallgrass Film Festival at Roxy’s Downtown, Saturday, October 17th at 2 pm.  Check out the trailer below:

Carla Eckels is Director of Organizational Culture at KMUW. She produces and hosts the R&B and gospel show Soulsations and brings stories of race and culture to The Range with the monthly segment In the Mix. Carla was inducted into The Kansas African American Museum's Trailblazers Hall of Fame in 2020 for her work in broadcast/journalism.
