ICT S.O.S., a local non-profit dedicated to the fight against human trafficking, has been selected to receive the 2015 Volunteer Leadership Group Award from the National Children’s Alliance. KMUW’s Abigail Wilson reports…
Since it began in 2011, ICT S.O.S. has collected thousands of needed items for local agencies. The group also hosts an annual 5k race, called Race 4 Freedom.
In 2013, the organization began offering a trafficking prevention education curriculum for middle school and high school students. It is currently being used in several local schools, church groups, and residential facilities.
Jennifer White, the newly named executive director of ICT S.O.S., says the organization provides support for local agencies who work directly with victims of trafficking and abuse, including the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County.
“For the organizations that we’re serving to recognize us in that way, that really meant a lot to me," White says. "That they appreciate our partnership and our volunteers enough to nominate us for something like this was really cool.”
ICT S.O.S. was nominated for the award by the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County.
