Local Shops To Participate In Small Business Saturday

Visit Wichita

Visit Wichita is encouraging holiday shoppers to remember the value of local stores during this weekend's Small Business Saturday event.

Small Business Saturday is an annual event created by the credit card company American Express in 2010. Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the day has steadily become its own annual holiday shopping tradition. According to Jessica Sawatski with Visit Wichita, a lot of small local businesses will offer treats, discounts and special merchandise.

"Part of what makes Wichita so special is to be able to go to a local shop, whether that it is a retail shop or a restaurant or a local brewery...something that has a uniqueness that you can't find anywhere else," Sawatski says.

Many local businesses participate annually in Small Business Saturday. Sawatski says the day benefits the local economy.

"Having a day where it's all about promoting local business is certainly something that's beneficial," she says. "Just to be able to have that focus be on local business instead of the online shopping or some of the other routes you could go."

You can find Visit Wichita's full list of participating businesses here.
