Night Train starts the week with more music from March featured artist -- the critically acclaimed tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano -- showcasing his versatility with music from him both as a leader and guesting with vocalist and songwriter Bob Dorough, on a symphonic project from guitarist Jim Hall, and in Conrad Herwig’s The Latin Side of Joe Henderson.

Plus new music from vibes player Christian Tamburr, trumpeter Jim Rotondi, a tribute to Detroit Jazz City, and a new symphonic arrangement of Claude Bolling’s "Suite for Flute & Jazz Piano Trio".

Night Train marks birthdays of guitarists Melvin Sparks and George Benson (including a special in hour two of the show exploring his early jazz work in the 60s); highlights more music from March featured artist Joe Lovano (including music from the Tenor Legacy album with another tenor player, Joshua Redman), and features the latest albums from the Don Braden Organix Quartet, Cory Weeds with the Jeff Hamilton Trio, the Will Caviness Sextet and the Clayton Brothers.

Lots of ‘good vibes’ tonight on Night Train – including music from birthday artists Dave Pike and Stefon Harris, Mike Freeman ZonaVibe’s new tribute to Cal Tjader, and 2016 NEA Jazz Master Gary Burton. Plus music from pianist, singer and composer Dave Frishberg for his birthday, new music singer Rebecca Kilgore, and more from March featured artist Joe Lovano (this time as part of the John Abercrombie Quartet).

Thursday 3.24.16

Night Train celebrates birthdays of pianist Steve Kuhn (with music from his Mostly Coltrane album with special guest – March featured artist Joe Lovano), Paul McCandless of the chamber jazz ensemble Oregon, and pianist Renee Rosnes (with music from her new album, Written in Stone, and a Savannah Music Festival special with Rosnes and pianist Bill Charlap).

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
