A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer

What are you doing for Valentine's Day?

Wichita Community Theatre is hosting an evening performance of A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer as part of V-Day, a global initiative to end violence against women and girls. Writers who contributed to the project include the poets Sharon Olds and Maya Angelou, the playwright Edward Albee, and novelist Michael Cunningham, among others. Across the world, venues are presenting this show, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to benefit organizations that assist female survivors; in our city, the proceeds from this one-night-only performance benefit the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center.

A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer is, by turns, moving, funny, harrowing, and tragic. It is a strictly volunteer production, with no budget, and is in its fifth successful year in our city. It gives voice to women—and to men—who have, for too long, been forced into silence. If you know a woman, love a woman, are a woman; if you have a mother, a sister, a daughter, a friend; if you want to help make a difference on this Day of Love, this Valentine's Day, this event is at 7 p.m. on February 14.

And just a reminder, you can still catch a performance of Death of a Salesman at Wichita Community Theater; great American playwright Arthur Miller's prize-winning drama is in production until February 7. Reservations are recommended.
