More ATM Skimmers Reported In Wichita Area; Photos Of Suspects Released

Wichita Police Department

Wichita Police learned today that two more ATM skimmers were found at local banks. That brings the total number of skimmers discovered in the past week up to six.

On Tuesday, Fidelity Bank confirmed that skimmers were used on ATMs at their NewMarket Square location and at Bradley Fair. Fidelity reports the devices were installed early on July 4 and removed later that day.

On Monday, police reported that the devices had also been used at three Intrust Bank locations. Police say those skimmers were also planted on July 4, but were removed before they could be recovered.

Last Thursday, one of the devices was recovered from an ATM at Sunflower Bank on East Harry.

According to the Wichita Police Department, the small green circular mechanism was directly attached to the card reader of an ATM. When a user inserts their card through the skimmer and into the ATM, the skimmer can store credit card information.

Intrust Bank and Fidelity Bank both said in news releases that customers who were affected are being notified. Wichita police have released surveillance photos of suspects they believe placed skimmers on area bank ATMs.
